About
Andy Colwell is a freelance photographer and multimedia journalist based in Central Pennsylvania. A versatile multiplatform photojournalist, his photographic pursuits are many, spanning from daily news to video, commercial, editorial, portraiture, weddings and architecture. Regardless of the subject, however, he approaches every assignment with compassion, awareness and tact.
Andy has been employed as a multimedia photojournalist by Penn State and currently freelances for the Associated Press and Penn State. His work has been published in eight countries and in a variety of local and national publications. As a student at Penn State University, Andy attended the 2011 Eddie Adams Workshop XXIV, was one of twenty student journalists in the Student Newsroom of the Online News Association Conference 2011, interned at the Harrisburg Patriot-News, and placed as a feature photography national finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists 2010 Mark of Excellence Awards.
At Penn State, he served as president of the Penn State Photography Club, co-founder of the school’s chapter of the National Press Photographers Association and lead photographer for TEDxPSU.
Andy works constantly to adapt and expand his skill set, which includes still photography, multimedia production, video editing and print reporting. He works as well in a team as he does as a solo journalist. He enjoys family, badminton, locally grown food and is available for assignment throughout North America.
